Malin Yhr was born in Sweden and came to NYC in 1992 at age 17 to study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. Being a young dancer seeking to improve her skill set and lower her pain level brought her to the GYROTONIC® method, Yoga and Somatic Practice.
She started her GYROTONIC® method and Yoga for Dancers studies at Whitecloud in 1994 and was certified in the GYROTONIC® method in 2000 and GYROKINESIS® method in 2001. In 1995 she was certified in Reiki level I and II, and level III in Hamburg, Germany 2004.
Malin’s life and careers have been challenged by MCAS, Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis that was undiagnosed until age 46. She endured continuous physical challenges including 15 surgeries. It has profoundly influenced her, and her approach to the body, physical movement and movement instruction.
Malin has taught at multiple locations over the years including Studio Riverside under the direction of Leda Franklin, Steps Studio, the Alzheimer’s Association, Hampton Pilates and many other studios and educational facilities throughout New York, and at Harmony Studios in West Hollywood and Natural Pilates in Beverly Hills, CA.
She was an executive producer of the film ‘Company’ written by George Furth and Stephen Sondheim.
Malin is the first dancer to serve on the board of the Stephen Petronio Company.
Currently she spends her time between LA and NYC teaching at GYROTONIC® Soho - Movement Beyond.
